New 1st Kyu

Historically, Kyu is Japanese for the “children” grades before reaching your black belt, considered as adulthood in martial arts. Kyu grades as measured as steps towards your black belt, so 1st translates to 1 belt from Black belt.

Today, we had ECKA Chief Instructor, Sensei Dev Barrett (8th dan black belt) undertake a two hour course and hour long grading.

I’m delighted that four members of the club were successful and are now just one grade from Black belt!
