Geoff has been training with the English Contact Karate Association (ECKA) for over 30 years, starting his martial arts training in 1987. He gained his 1st Dan Black Belt in 1992, 2nd Dan in 1998, and 3rd Dan in 2003 (with a Grade A-). In 2010 he was awarded his 4th Dan Black Belt by the ECKA and then the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations for Great Britain (WAKO GB) awarded him his 5th Dan Black Belt in 2016.


Sensei Geoff receives his 5th Dan Black Belt from WAKO GB President Peter Edwards and WAKO Europe President Roy Baker.

Geoff has been training under his instructor Sensei Dev Barrett since 1988 and has also trained with other notable instructors; Alfie Lewis, Kevin Brewerton, Bill Wallace, Master Sken, Sandy Holt, Henk Kuipers, Remy Bonjasky, Semmy Schilt, Geoff Thompson, Peter Consterdine, Al Peasland, Mick Tully, Rick Faye, Ronnie Green, Jean Frenette, Howard Brown, Ray Hoffman & Junior Anderson.

He is currently a Qualified Instructor with both WAKO GB and the British Combat Association (BCA) and has been qualified to teach martial arts since 1999 (originally an EKGB Qualified Instructor then with the EKF) who has run the Bletchley club since 1998.

Geoff is fully qualified in Sports First Aid, a Registered Coach in Milton Keynes and has a up to date Enhanced DBS check.

Geoff became an International referee in the 2006 WPKA World Championships, refereeing and judging in the Light Continuous and Semi-contact categories, including a number of World Championship finals! In 2008 he was awarded his 'A' class referee status from the ECKA. In 2013 he qualified with WAKO as a Referee for Ring Sports (Full Contact, Low Kick and K1) and refereed for full contact in the WAKO British Championships. In 2014 he was selected to represent Great Britain as the official in the WAKO European Championships and was awarded his WAKO International Referee "C Class" licence. He was again selected to refereee again in 2015 in the WAKO World Championships where he earned his WAKO International Referee "B Class" licence.

In both November 2014 and 2015, Geoff was inducted into the Martial Arts Illustrated Hall of Fame and in 2017 he was inducted into the UK Martial Arts Show Black Belt Hall of Fame.

Geoff is an Associate Instructor with The BCA and has previously trained in Jujitsu, and currently holds the grade of 6th Kyu, with the British Jujitsu Association. In 2017 he was accepted to become a member of the Kizuna Brotherhood demonstrating his respect, dignity and honesty.

Geoff is also a member of Team Milton Keynes Triathlon Club and regularly competes in triathlons. In July 2009 he completed a full Ironman distance triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42km run) in 11:53:27, raising over £1,500 for cancer research for this event! Full report available. In May 2012 he completed a second full Ironman in the heat and mountains of Lanzarote.
